It's Never Going to Happen

Still Fun, but Realistic...

Yesterday, someone on social media asked me what I did, my return comment was, ‘I write music and play piano plus a little singing’. This person was a musician and an accomplished sound engineer and commented that we had similar paths. That couldn’t be further from the truth!

I couldn't pass as a sound engineer to save myself.  Me and Protools (or any other music program) don't mix at all. I have to work with much more talented people than me in that area.  I’m happy to call myself a Producer, but Engineer… No way. Working out which plug goes where or anything past pressing a simple on/off button will never happen!

During COVID, out of a need to avoid boredom, I learned how to edit videos. Thank goodness for the simplicity of Apple’s iMovie. This newfound skill has turned into a life passion, and next time round, I’m coming back as a Film Director. 🤣 Did I mention reality?

This is my most recent video, I filmed the footage at Lord Howe Island, and the song is ‘Uncertainty’ from my latest album ‘Enchantment’ with Rebecca Daniel. It tested my editing skills as we didn’t have a recording of us playing the actual song, so I had nothing to sync the music to. I used previous footage in slo-mo to create a dream-like quality to make it work. The logistics of Becky and I living six hours apart requires extra creativity! 🧚

I hope you enjoy this second video (vlog) I made while in New Zealand. Sadly, the extra scary bits never got filmed as I had my eyes closed…. but still plenty to see, and you will get the idea of how nasty the road was. Hang in there for the boat trip at the bottom, it’s pretty special!
